CLASS STRUCTURE - NEW IN 2024
All classes for 2024 will be considered privates lessons. After much research, we realize that children are retaining more information more quickly when they are taught individually for a 15 minute period compared to 30 minutes with other kids. There will be a 1 to 1 ratio of children to teachers. Each child will work with a combination of Keeley and Emma during the week. There will be two children in the pool at a time working individually.
What ages do we teach?
We start lessons between ages 2 and 3. It is important to remember that every single child is different when learning how to swim. There are some very young children who grasp the concept quickly. Some take a bit longer. If you are worried your child is not ready, please reach out to Keeley and she can help you make a decision.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF LESSONS FOR NEW SWIMMERS?
More often than not, children will cry the first couple of days that you drop them off. If children are not used to going under the water on their own, this is very scary to them. The main cause of fear comes from the water in their ears. This is an entirely new sound to them, and being submerged in water is the only time they will ever experience this feeling in their ears. Depending on the age and personality of the child, the crying should stop toward the end of the week. You will see it vastly improve in the second week.
CLASS TIMES/Days
All weekly lessons start on Monday and end on Thursday (Fridays are used as a make-up day for weather - see Weather Info below). There is one exception - class will run from Tuesday - Friday during the week of Memorial Day. See the Class Schedule page for other class options. Please make every effort to be at all classes - consistency is the key to learning how to swim. Make-ups are not available unless of emergencies.
drop off/pick up
Please pull all the way into the driveway when you are dropping off/picking up your child(ren). Please arrive right on time as we have other parents coming in right behind you. Classes are scheduled back to back so it's important that you are on time. Once your child has been dropped off or picked up, please stay in your car. You can wait in your car as long as you are pulled up. More parking information will be sent the week prior to lessons.
WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED?
Before class starts, make sure your child goes to the bathroom at his/her house or make sure he/she has a clean swim diaper on. Sunscreen should be applied before arriving to lessons. Your child will need a towel and goggles (these are not necessary - only if the child prefers to swim with them). They will leave their cover ups and other clothes/bags with you. Please make sure names are on all towels and goggles. IF YOU CHOOSE TO SEND YOUR CHILD IN SHOES, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE THEM SLIP ONS (NATIVES, FLIP FLOPS, SANDALS, ETC.).
WEATHER
We will swim in light rain. We will not swim if it is thundering and lightning. If a class is rained out (7 minutes or more of a class), we will have makeup classes on Friday. If you are not able to attend a Friday morning make-up class, we can reschedule you for the next week.
2024 PRICING/PAyment
Please see the class schedule page for pricing and class descriptions! A $50 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance will be due the first day of lessons. Payment reminders will be sent via email. Lessons are $250 per week.
CLOSED LESSONS
Lessons are closed to parents, friends, family, and all visitors. There are absolutely no exceptions. The main reason for this is to prevent distractions. Parents will drop their child(ren) off at the gate with a swim instructor, and the instructors will bring the kids out at the end of class. On the last day of lessons (Thursday), parents are invited to come back for the last 5 minutes of class to see what their children have learned.
HOW MANY CLASSES SHOULD MY CHILD TAKE?
MemFins recommends a minimum of two consecutive weeks for new swimmers. New swimmers are described as children who may be afraid of going under, children that have never been let go in the water, or kids under the age of four.
